Even if you're a whiz at understanding Web analytics, sorting through Google Analytics' flood of data can be a little overwhelming. If you're new to understanding analytics or are looking for some quick hints to build your audience, here are three quick tips for getting the most value out of Google Analytics.

Figure out what's driving traffic to your site. Is it a particular geographical area? Are certain types of website's linking to yours? What you learn will tell you something about your content and what type of people like to read about your company or ideas. Once you know what's driving your traffic, you can reach out to those who are linking to you for collaboration and networking. You'll have better guidance in understanding who to reach out to, and a greater understanding of your audience.

Keep a close eye on your traffic chart. The direction it's trending helps you determine where and how to focus your content. If your numbers are increasing, you'll know you're on the right track. If they're decreasing, you know you're not providing enough fresh information.
The traffic chart will also help you understand whether your visitors find you via search engine, referral links, or by typing your URL directly. This information will help you figure out everything from whether your marketing is working to which types of websites are most likely to link to you.

Track what content gets the most page views. Google Analytics is a great tool for helping you find out if your content is good and which pages people are reading most. Also, watch for how often other sites link to your content. People will link to great content so if you're lacking lots of links into your pages, then you're probably lacking compelling content or it's in places that readers can't find.
Remember- don't over complicate your efforts to attract visitors to your website. Spend your time creating great content and reach out to those that like what your produce. It works!
